Our Skippers

David

David, along with Imogen, are the founders of Navigation Boat Movers, but he didn’t start with boats. At heart, he is an entertainer, working stages around the country as a keyboard player and vocalist, and has an engineering background after completing a degree in ‘Sound Light and Live Event Technology BSc’ from the University of Derby.

He always had a love for the inland waterways, having grown up around the Aire and Calder navigation in Yorkshire, and when he met Imogen they both found an equal passion for canal boats. So, after deciding the normal landlubber’s life wasn’t for them, they bought their boat together and ever since have lived on narrowboat Ina.

David is a fully qualified and experienced helmsman, certified by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), and has many hours at the helm of various craft. He has hands-on experience working around varying engine types and knowledge of the maintenance requirements and how to solve problems that can arise from time to time with boats.

Imogen

Imogen is the other half of the team at Navigation Boat Movers. Having met David and moving in together on narrowboat Ina, she has an equal passion for all things boating and water-based activities.

Imogen’s background is in the film industry as a stunt performer. With many film credits to her name, including Batman and Eternals and tv programs such as Casualty and Shetland, she too has a love for canal boats and travelling the network. An experienced hand at the tiller, Imogen is a fully qualified Helmsman, certified by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), and confident as a support crew for other skippers needing an extra hand with the larger boats.

Ieuan

Ieuan is the latest member of the team at Navigation Boat Movers. He comes to us with a wealth of experience in boats of different varieties from sailing yachts, powerboats, rowing boats, and canal boats.

His family have had a yacht of their own since Ieuan was only 4 years old, and he and his family have had many memorable journeys together over the years with Ieuan learning the ropes whilst growing up into a young man at the helm. They have sailed their yacht, a 33-foot Moody Eclipse 33 mkII, around Wales, Ireland, Scotland, the South of England, and the Channel Islands, spending months at a time at sea.

Throughout his life, Ieuan has been passionate about music and live events and is a talented pianist playing keyboards in a function band and also trombone in a Ska band. Through his love for music and the live event industry, he attended the University of Derby and completed a degree in ‘Sound Light and Live Event Technology BSc’. It was here he met David of Navigation Boat Movers, and they have since become close friends and trusted work colleagues working together in live events, and the boating world.

It is no surprise, with Ieuan’s background in boating, that whilst at university Ieuan became involved in the University of Derby Rowing Team. He has competed with Derby Rowing Club at many events including Nottingham Head Races and several events on the Tideway Thames. During his time rowing with Derby Ieuan became a cox, coxswaining the ladies 8, and also began coaching at the club. It was at the Derby Rowing Club that he was able to attain his RYA Powerboat Level 2 certification.

Ieuan still works in live events to this day, whether working as a sound engineer or setting up stages around the country, or performing on stage himself with his bands with his keyboards or trombone, but he cannot escape his first love of boats and decided to join us at Navigation Boat Movers as one of our skippers. He is a fully qualified Helmsman, certified by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), as are all of our skippers, and we are proud to have him as part of our team at Navigation Boat Movers.
